Talkin’ ‘bout My Generation
The Report Card on the Boomers
Enrol at the bottom of the page
Boomer bashing is in vogue, just as the Boomers are finally leaving the scene. Not as in dying (yet), but rather no longer occupying leadership roles in politics, healthcare, education, business, the arts and society at large. In other words, the Boomers are no longer running the show. This is a good time to evaluate the impact of this hugely influential generation. Is the demonization of Boomers fair? It’s fair to say we live in a world largely created by the Boomers, but what does that mean? Have the Boomers been a boon or a bane? Huge social progress has been made in the Boomer-dominated era. On the other hand, inequality has reached stratospheric proportions and there are many other ills in society. Hyper-partisanship and even hatred are greater than in decades. Is the Boomer generation responsible?
In this two-week course, we’ll look at the Boomer report card holistically, from the advancement of minority, women’s and LGBT rights, and the anti-war movement to unmitigated climate change and the “greed is good” mentality that has had us in its grip in the Boomer-dominated era. What’s the overall evaluation? We’ll see, and we’ll also have a laugh at the Boomers’ expense.
